Two for the Price of One...

After Dane, my six year old Rottweiler died of cancer I swore I would never get another dog. My heart was broken and my bank account was drained. After all,I had a cat. Why did I need a dog?

However, teaching an inside only cat to walk on a leash was not going well. He didn't seem to want anything to do with me or even learning simple commands. I did teach him to sit and look out the window at the birds. Oh wait, he already did that.

Time passed and I realized how much I missed Dane. I live alone on top of a beautiful mountain. It got lonely having my morning coffee on front porch and reading a good book in the evening on the back deck. Who was I kidding? I needed a dog.

Dane was a 164 pound gentle giant. I always had Rotties but she was one of a kind. I couldn't see myself with a small dog,it's just not me. After much research a Basset seemed perfect.

Bassets are a medium size, love to hang out on the couch but enjoy a nice long walk. Also, they are so darn cute. I found Tri State Basset Rescue and they were wonderful. Once I was approved it took a while but good things come to those who wait

It was love at first sight and Abby is her name. Her owner, Donna, has to move and can not take her. How heartbreaking is that? Life is not always fair. Donna brought Abby to my home and we all met for the first time. Things went very well. (my cat may not agree) I now have another perfect dog. She was so well trained and loving. You could tell how much love she was raised with.

It has been a few weeks and even Max my cat loves Abby. I am very lucky. Not only did I get my Basset but I also got a new friend named Donna.

Great story...

Sorry I didn't comment on this sooner. Love this story. Sorry that Donna had to let her go. But, so glad that it all worked out for all of you. Aren't Bassets the best? Glad that Max is happy too.

Sorry about Dane. Sounds like she was an awesome companion.
