laying on the lounge chair head on the arm rest.. with his buddy "MO"

We went to our local Shelter. There he was... Skinny droopy, and absolutely quite....The folks where great. Let us stay with him and then go outside to get to know him and see how he would react to our bossy Yorkie.

Went home got the wife brought the 11 year old boss of the house MO, our Yorkie..

Not a sound from the basset. Polite to the Yorkie, definitely let him dominate... Walked easily on his leash. His mom and dad where AKC registered according to the papers supplied by the pound. WOW this is great!!!!!

Took him home and for the first 2 days same attitude and demeanor... Then the first Aroooohhhhh! Bouncing around the house. Bowled over the cat.... shredded any paper available... got on the couch.. dug in the yard...

I was not too upset but was concerned.. Of course, the end of all concern came when Barney was at the couch with me and let out his now famous WOOF WOOF and I said "BARNEY!!!" Quite!!! and he responded with the same excitement but let out his woof woof wooof and less than half the volume... Well I was his from then on. 5 years later he is just the best ever friend and pal you could ask for... From the skinny quite self deposed dog he is now 70 pounds of people stopping bud..

My wife refuses to take him downtown because it is like being with a rock star. EVERYONE has to stop and pet him or comment... He of course just LOVES it...Best dog ever...

Sad note for SMART SMART SMART
by: Bill Ivey

Barney lost his best bud "MO" last week. After almost 16 years with us he couldn't go on...No cancer tumors or anything just lived his life all up...

The sad part is to see Barney looking for him or laying outside the bedroom for me to carry Mo to his bed for the night..

We give him a lot more attention and walks but he knows his bud went away and has not come back..

He will put on his happy face and do his regular things but he still looks for him..

Great story...
by: Virginia from just-basset-hounds

Thank you for sharing your Basset Hound adoption story. I really love reading about adopted Basset Hounds. He looks so relaxed and happy lounging in the sun.

I know what you mean about the rock star when out in public. That's a great way to describe it. Usually people barely notice me (ha ha). But, bring the Basset along and he's like a magnet.

Shelter basset too
by: Anonymous

I got my shelter basset last year. I just love him. How could anybody ever give up a basset? I'm so glad your basset is happy and has a good home.
