Our First Basset.

My wife and I had been to our local humane society to visit with a beautiful little Rat Terrier who had been surrendered with her sister when their owner had passed away. We currently have a Jack Russel/Rat Terrier mix named Lucy and were looking to find her a sister. We were saddened, but happy to learn that both Terriers had been adopted out.

My wife remembered seeing on the humane society website, a Basset Hound named Noodles. We never thought about owning a Basset Hound. But when they brought Noodles into the visiting room, my wife and my own heart just melted. Noodles is an older female Basset who was brought in to the humane society after some kids saw her being thrown out of a van. As I said before, I never even considered owning a Basset. But there was this automatic connection between Noodles and myself. She waddled over and just dumped herself over onto my feet for some belly itches.

My wife and I visited with Noodles for about half an hour that day. We continued to come back to play with Noodles and after 3 days of visits, we filled out an adoption form. Several days later we brought our new little girl home and I cannot imagine life without her now.

Our other dog, Lucy, has grown to love Noodles. I didn't know how enjoyable owning a Basset Hound could be. Nor did I realize the personalities these beautiful dogs have. Both myself, and my wife are now "Basset" people.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Noodles sounds like a typical Basset Hound... Waddling over and then dumping herself down on your feet for some belly rubs. Makes me laugh. Love that you and your wife are Basset people now!

What a shame that she was dumped on the street. But I'm glad that she has a good home now. They really are a great breed... Enjoy!
