My First Basset
by Laurie. B
I took Flash sledding with my little cousin. This picture ended up on the front page of the newspaper.
I have always wanted to own a Basset Hound. I thought it would be awhile till I could get another dog. A proud owner of 2 other dogs already ( and a cat ).
I am a vet tech. I work at a small town clinic in IL. We only had about 3 basset hound patients that came to the clinic. One my absolute favorite was Flash. He was a puppy at the time. Melt your heart cute. So cute in fact a year later I would still be telling my friends about the cute basset hound, Flash, that came to the clinic.
To my surprise Flash's owner called me at work to ask if I could find someone to adopt her dogs. See dreams do come true =-) Although sad that the family had to give up such a wonderful dog, however he is in good hands.
Bassets have to be one of the best breeds. Good for the owner. If you own a Basset I'm sure you would agree with me. Bassets are very good at making you laugh, even if they are not trying to. Something about a 50-60lb dog running on his way to short legs, ears flying, body wiggling, lips flapping...They are such happy dogs and its hard not to be happy when you're around them. It takes one look from those sad eyes to melt your heart. No wonder Bassets are overweight a lot. HeHe.
Now I am the proud owner of 3 dogs, which worked out very well because my other dogs were getting older and Flash livened up the group a bit. I'll probably always own a Basset Hound now after owning Flash. I would recommend this breed for most owners. I say most not because the dog would be bad but there are some owners that would be bad for the dog.
