We bought a new home last year and the couple we bought the house from owned Molly, an older Basset. They had found her wandering on a nearby road and took her in and had her for about 3 years. When we went for the final walk thru we met Molly who was lounging on the front porch. Being dog people, and having rescues of our own, we had to stop to pet her and make over her :-) She was absolutely precious and sweet. The owners asked if we wanted her! Well it did not take us long at all to say "YES". We were very surprised and shocked that her family would want to give her away, but we were more than happy to take her.
We discovered her ears were both horribly infected when we adopted her, and were shocked her previous owners had not addressed her health issues. She had to have been absolutely miserable as our Vet and his techs were shocked at the amount of infection present in her poor little ears. We have been treating her ears everyday with antibiotic drops and cleaning them once a week with witch hazel. She is also a prescription medicine for allergies otherwise she tends to gnaw her front paws till they are red and angry. We also feed her a special diet of dry dog food made out of white fish and sweet potato; we avoid beef and chicken since we have read that they can aggravate allergies.
We are absolutely delighted with our girl and have watched her blossom over the last year. She has become a jovial and goofy girl who loves her treats and can be somewhat stubborn when she wants to! LOL
