General and I

General and I

I'm now 45 years old and have been owned by "General" for 7 years. I got General from a friend in Hickory, NC as a Christmas gift from my wife and our two children, Ragan and Jeffrey.

I just wanted to share a photo of the best thing that ever happened to me. You see I am a recovering addict, 7 years sober now, and General definitely plays a great role in my recovery. I am greeted at the door every day upon returning home from work by my best friend with his tail wagging so hard that his butt wags along with it.

I didn't realize it at first but General was born on the birthday of my deceased brother. I cannot help but think that he is a Godsend from my brother, bestowed upon me to help with my healing. I cannot imagine what my life would be like, if at all without General. We talk. We walk. We cuddle and share kisses. General has replaced the drugs in my life with love and affection for which I am truly thankful.

As I sit here writing this, General is lying right next to me waiting on me to settle down for the evening so he can lay with me like he does every evening. Tomorrow General will go with me to work, something that he and I both love to do. I cannot imagine a life without General in it! I'm pretty sure he feels the same way!

Here's another story and photos of General: General Loves the Boat!

Best Fur Friends
by: Jessie

I can relate to your dog helping you through your recovery and daily life. Mine helps me as well. For awhile there, the only "normal" thing I did was take my basset to the dog park twice a day for an hour or so to run. It really grounded me to be around other people that had nothing to do with my addiction and my dog has helped me hang in there so much. I am grateful for him every day. I wish you and General much happiness.

by: Dan-O

I am so happy for you and your fur kid. What a wonderful story.

I have a Basset Boy named John P Coltrane that runs my life and I know exactly what you experiance.

They are a god send -- mine helps me with my PTSD and goes to work with me alot. Its great to see the reaction/smiles of all of my employees when he is "in the house".

My best to you and General, he looks like a noble hound
