He Ran Faster than a Steam Train over the Frozen Lake

I recently adopted a 3 year old bassett hound without knowing much about them - save for the fact that "Jaws" is so cute it's insane.

On Christmas Day the lake across from our home was finally frozen. We brought our lazy, dazy boy for a walk on the big lake. Well, imagine our surprise when he took off with what seemed like super warp speed across the lake. His "lazy look" is very deceptive. Those dogs can MOVE!

I think his paws are somewhat delicate to cold temperatures though because he was licking his paws a lot afterward. I'm going to look into getting him some booties and figure out the best course of action.

Congrats on adopting Jaws (great name for a Basset Hound - LOL).

I went ice fishing once up in Canada with some friends. I was amazed (and a little scared at first) that we could just drive out on to the lake. We drove to a little hut and had fun fishing and partying.

I guess Jaws had a burst of energy. My Basset's paws are sensitive to the cold snow. Sometimes when I take him for a walk in the snow, he'll start whimpering and hold his paw up as though it's cold or has a cramp or something like that. So I keep an eye on him when it's cold and snowy out. If he seems to be getting too cold, I take him back inside.

Anyway, have fun with Jaws!
