I just put Cooper to sleep this past week. It was a relief since he was so sick. But losing a Basset is not like losing any other kind of dog.

I got him when he was 10 years old from the shelter. He had severe abandonment issues, but he was sweet and appreciative. We forged a real bond and the love he had for me was profound. After 5 years of spoiling him, trying to make up for the first 10 years that weren't so good, we were stuck to each other like glue.

Finally he passed away at 15 1/2, which I understand is a very generous lifespan for a Basset. I feel like he's still around. Who knows, maybe he is. I'll miss him for the rest of my life.

So sorry Cooper was sick and had to be put to sleep. But, I'm glad you found him and were able to give him such a good life for the past 5+ years. I'm sure he deserved all the spoiling you gave him. You two were best buds. Take care!
