Bowzer - update from his mom.

What we have feared happened last night. After 5 days of not eating and the weekend at the emergency vet we had to put Bowzer down. He had an enlarged liver - unsure the cause, could be cancer, could be a bacteria, could be a virus. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

He was my best friend and the heart of our family. Bowzer gave so much love we couldn't let him suffer a minute longer. We are blessed to have loved him for 11 years and he holds a huge part of our hearts.

For all you Basset owners: CHERISH YOUR DAYS. Love your hound with all you have. Give them the spot they want on the couch or in bed. That little ice cream left in the bowl is for them - that's why it doesn't get into your spoon. Live as they do - with nothing but love to give!

first and foremost i am very sorry for your loss. my sympathy goes out to you.

you asked if we had heard of such a thing.

the most common causes of enlarged liver are, heartworm , ringworm, or poisoning. Poisoning being something we seen very often at the vet. When a pet gets to this critical point it is not common to be able to reverse the effects. ( from my personal experience) sometimes it goes out of the vets hands when they have done all they can and all they can do is hope and pray. I am sorry.

It breaks my heart because I know how much I love my basset hounds. They are just as much a member of our family as anyone else in the family. So sorry for your loss.
