My Basset Hound, Bentley, has me wrapped around his big paws. He also inspired my series of books, The Returns. How did he do that? Well, he was born with a perfect number seven on his left hip. He is also the seventh dog my husband and I have owned. I knew there must be a reason for his peculiar marking.
When I decided to pursue writing, I thought of how I could incorporate my love for dogs, Bentley, and his number seven in a story. The idea came to me one day and it proved to be very funny. I made him an FBI agent who had the badge number seven. He is killed before his time and goes to Heaven. There he is sent to the "Returns" department. He finds himself back on Earth in the body of a Basset Hound wearing his badge number seven. Of course, he still has all of his human qualities which include a love for Ho-Ho's and sniffing out criminals. I even feature my sweet Bentley on the book's cover.
I have owned many different breeds of dogs but without a doubt, my Basset Hound has ruined me for any other breed.
