Basil the Basset Hound

Basil as a puppy

Basil as a puppy

We got Basil at 4 months and he is such a charmer. He is now 18 months old and is so playful. I remember thinking that Basset Hounds must be very lazy dogs.....and then I met Basil. He is so full of energy that it makes me tired sometimes. He loves to chew toys and his favourite "treat" is a sock. We actually buy him new socks and tie them in knots.....since we ran out of socks at home. He drools and gets so excited when we take the socks out for tug-o-war play. He's a real momma's boy and is very afraid of storms!

Beautiful baby Basil! I have had 3 bassethounds! I still have my 3rd. His name is Scoober Doo! He is the light of my life!! He too is very afraid of thunder and rain. He is stubborn but very loving and fun! He is a mamas boy for sure!!! He sleeps with me, rides in my car everytime I leave home and is always by my side! He is 10 years old and healthy! :) I am from Houston Tx,

Shannon the Basset Hound (Basil's buddy)
by: Angie

Yes, its really strange that Basil is so afraid of thunder storms because our other Basset - Shannon - is not at all bothered about the noises of the storms. As long as she's in her bed (or anyone elses that she's claimed for the time being) she is happy.

Adorable...
by: Virginia from just-basset-hounds

I love the photo of Basil! It's just adorable. Yes, I agree. They are not lazy. Mine does enjoy sleeping. But, he also loves to play and wants to go for a walk every day. He definitely has calmed down since he has gotten older. As a younger pup and adolescent he was more energetic.

Mine is afraid of thunderstorms too. Unfortunately, we got into the habit in the beginning of comforting him when there was a storm. This just validates their fear. Apparently, the petting or comforting is really positive reinforcement which encourages their fearful behavior. He continues to be afraid of thunderstorms today.

Enjoy!

So cute.
by: Wanda

He's sooooo adorable. My first basset was scared to death of storms, but my 2nd one doesn't even notice them, but he won't go outside in a rainstorm.
