Albert is now 15 months old and is still an excitable, playful, mischievous little hound. This is partly due to his lack of Puppy-hood.
At 4 months old, Baby Albert started refusing to walk anywhere, lying down in the middle of the road etc. We put this down to a typical Basset trait, unfortunately it was something much more serious - the dreaded elbow dysplasia!!
Following a long examination and x-ray the vet informed us that it was one of the worst cases she had ever seen and feared the worse.
It didn't get any better as we soon realised it was in both front legs.
Albert had his left leg done and after 3 months recovery then had his right leg done (with another 3 months recovery).
It has only been since around Christmas time that he has been a "normal" walking dog. We spend as much time with him as possible (Albert and my wife are practically inseparable and he follows her constantly round the house!) as we are well away that the long term consequences of his operations mean he's never going to get to a ripe old age.
He is such an adorable, loving dog and just looking at him brings a smile to my face every time I see him.
